Guitar strumming help please!!?

i have to play "collide" by howie day in a week. i know the chords and the words but i can't seem to strum and sing at the same time!! i don't really know the strumming pattern and i get so confused every time i try to play and sing at the same time. is there anything i can do in a week to be able to perform? thanks so much!
