What to expect after you get your first tattoo?

I got my first tattoo yesterday afternoon, its a cross with Romans 5:8 on my left shoulder blade area, I was really nervous going into the shop but the tattoo itself didn't hurt too bad and it took an hour and 15 minutes to do. I kept the wrap on for 2 hours like my artist told me to do, then washed it off and put A&D ointment on it then it stay open, I covered it again before I went to bed to keep from sticking to my sheets. But while my friend was putting the ointment on last night she noticed that the ink was smearing and that my skin was bubbling around the edges. Is that normal? Right now the area is kind of tender it feels like a got a sunburn or something. How long does the healing process take and what can I expect from it?
